Stress balls

Yesterday I started my day as normal checking emails. Surprisingly, it was one of those odd days when there was nothing ‘to do’ in my inbox. How nice for me.

I checked my ‘other’ email address, which I do everyday, but it’s mostly junk (facebook messages, groupon – that kind of thing). Because I didn’t have any actions to take work wise, I sifted with a bit more care through this inbox. No biggie, right?

I saw a statement of what I wrongly thought was our Tennessee phone/internet bill, which I opened just for fun. Now, a bit of a back story…

In the fall last year, I put the phone and internet at the house in TN ‘on vacation’ – so instead of paying about $90 a month, our bills would be about $20 a month. I planned on ‘turning it back on’ around now – mid April. In late February I received an odd (I’m saying odd because I don’t usually get them) bank statement from TN – our account was overdrawn. I was shocked and bothered and stressed to say the least. In the winter, we generally put enough money in the bank down there to cover all the aut0 bills that come (insurance, water, phone/interent, and power). After a little investigation I realized that the phone company never put our service on vacation, and had been charging us the full amount all winter long!

Ack!

So I called the phone company, and of course they had no record of my request (even though the woman I spoke to actually called me at home in Canada, as she couldn’t put our phone on vacation unless we had ‘digital phone’ – which I agreed to)… blah blad blah. I actually had awesome customer service and the phone company agreed to credit us for a full 6 months of bills. Yippee.

So during this time our bank account was drained. When I was in Florida the first time, I sent a money order to cover the house’s expenses until we have some rental income. HOWEVER, I neglected to consider the other bills that came into arrears during that time, as well as the growing NSF charges. Duh! ARG!

Sooooo…. I opened our electric bill, which I thought was a credit for our phone bill, yesterday and saw a balance of $243, which is crazy, as our monthly bills usually top our at $35 a month! So again, more NSF charges, interest… blah blah blah!

So in a call down there I learned:

– I could not discuss the account with them, as the account was in PF’s name (I charmed my way around that… I think ‘my husband is going to kill me’ really helped).

– Our electricity was turned off as of March 15th. Awesome.

– They tried multiple times to call us, but had a WAY wrong phone number.

– They have our wrong address, so no mail!

So all in all, it was totally my fault. A completely stupid oversight on my part not considering all the other accounts in arrears with NSF charges. I don’t make a habit of checking the TN bills as I ‘know’ there is enough money to cover our expenses. Duh! That won’t happen again.

So (I need to wrap this up quickly), the phone company needed to call me back, and I attached the phone to my ass all morning and heard nothing. I learned when calling yet again, that their office can’t call internationally. Yeah, so I sat stewing in my stress for house! Super!

I could get the electricity turned back on immediately (paying the arrears plus a $30 charge) with a credit card (yeah!) – kind of important as the next bank draft wasn’t scheduled until April 29 – no good, as William arrives there on the 25th! And he would kill me if there was no electricity! I had Jen (PF’s girlfriend who lives in PA and obviously has an American bank account) fire off a big ole cheque to cover any other random charges. (I think we’ve paid more than $200 in NSF charges! Stupid!!)

The company also requires a SSN. Super. We’re Canadian. Kinda hard for us to have a SSN! Luckily PF has a US Tax Payer Identification Number, which works in these cases. If not we would have to pay a $300 deposit on top of everything else!

Eek!

So trust me when I say I’m going to pay a lot more attention to what is going on down there! I have online banking for our TN account (it’s super crappy compared to what we have here), and I’m committing to checking it weekly! Our electricity will be back on today, and the woman I dealt with re-assured me that I’m not a complete moron, even commenting that in the 13 years we’ve had an account with them, we’ve never missed a payment. Still…

So it was pretty funny when William called me when I was in the middle of dealing with this ┬áhot mess yesterday, and he asked, ‘how’s your day going?’ and of course I said, ‘good, good, not much going on really. How’s your day?’

Yeah… live and learn. Life’s (still) good, just a little more expensive than it was!

Ack!

Last night we ventured to PDF’s for dinner (I had a meeting first with he and Jen). It was nice, and TOL joined us for some after dinner drinks. Although we drove separately (I mentioned the meeting, right?) we arrived home at almost the same time, and I could hear William scolding (yelling, threatening death really) at Shank from inside my car inside the garage.

Super.

It appears Shank in his four hours without adult supervision (Halia we’ve determined is a useless babysitter) Shank thought his time well spent by pulling at a loose string in the carpet on the bottom stair. No biggie really, but pulling at that one string for several hours resulted in one very long string (like 2 inches by a foot and a half) of carpet missing from our bottom step.

So that’s just awesome.

A little while ago PDF called to talk to William. Apparently when William left PDF’s last night (in his brand new fancy F-150) he knicked the neighbour’s car with his bumper and they would like compensation for said dent. I was standing right there when he left (me a minute behind) and didn’t see or hear anything, neither did he – but I guess PDF and Jen did. Humf!

Perfect.

I’ve decided we’re no longer going to friends’ houses for dinner. From now on everyone comes here. Oh, and better him knick a vehicle than me!

He was mad, not now he’s not.

Get over it

Speaking of the loss to Detroit on Saturday…. I'm reminded that this still pisses me off!

I have issues!

Today was way too cold to go golfing. Actually, it's not all that cold, but the weather has changed so quickly I'm just not ready for it.

So, I decided today would be the perfect day to steam clean the carpets. We don't have a lot of carpet (2 bedrooms, office, and 1/2 of the big room in the basement. It's fairly easy to move the furniture to the other side of the room where the laminate is, and in our bedroom I don't move any furniture.

Today is the best day to do this task as:

– Pooch is at MomG's

– Billy is working then golfing today, so the moved furniture and damp floors won't affect him at all

– Nothing better to do today

– Carpets will be clean and dry by the week-end, although William is playing in a big tourney and won't be around anyways

However:

I moved out all the furniture, and went to rent the steam cleaner, and yippee! There was one available! But no upholstery attachment – most important for the stairs and edges of the rooms.

Rats.

So I'll vacuum, and check back later.

I forgot to mention in yesterday's post that along with my Texas Hair, I was also giving my best 'Blue Steel' look. So there.

Today there is a benefit thing at SC for a guy I don't know, but I'm pretty sure EVERYONE will be there, so I'm hoping to go. It will for sure be the last time I see the people there, so it will be fun. Maybe alcohol will help with the pain… I don't remember it being this bad last time, and I'm having tingling in my right leg, as well as a cramp like feeling in my right calf. I hope it's just from laying about, as I'm sure that's not a good sign…

Kiks and Jim are coming over after for Prime Rib dinner. Oh yeah. Mama likes. I don't think I'll be playing Wii, or Dance Dance Revolution… maybe Jim and I should take on Billy and Kiks…. he's more crippled than I due to electrocution/falling from 10 feet and landing on his face. What a pair! It will be fun anyways… I only hope that I can get rid of the nausea due to stupid stupid stupid back pain. Oh, and I've taken:

– Tylenol 3

– Liquid Advil

– Aleve

Yeah, no help at all. Super.

I've got to go lay down (or is it lie down… I don't know). Oh, I took this pic yesterday… It's our neighbor's yard, very pretty…

Don't worry… I'll do my picks soon… I know you're waiting with bated breath (that's how Billy Shakespeare spells it btw…).

Opps I did it again

Posted on Updated on

Sprained my back that is.

Oh yes… I did a quick post yesterday, checked my email, and when I went to stand I discovered that I couldn't stand up straight. I thought perhaps I was just stiff… oh no, oh no. It's pain reminiscent of this post… Super! I've talked to my chiropractor, (as I can't even go see him as I wouldn't be able to make it from the car into his office without substantial embarrassment to myself, as I'm hunched over like a 103 year old) and he wants me to get x-rays and a CAT scan as he is concerned about the re-injury factoid in addition to my Golfer's Ass Syndrome which only ended 3 short weeks ago, by the way.

<Sigh>

For the last few days before this I've been feeling great. I appreciated the lack of sciatic pain, and how good my body felt… now, un-so much.

The only good thing to come out of this is that I showered and washed my hair yesterday and couldn't dry it, and now I'm sporting fabulous Texas Hair… oh I just love it! (Usually my hair is either fuzzy or stick straight… I'm pretty sure the combination of not washing all the conditioner out of it combined with severe bed head has resulted in a great hair day if nothing else…

See…

Thank God for a great husband who totally does everything for me, and the fact that he has a great job with good coverage.
